Types of Faucets

Bathroom faucets are both functional and a décor item that can make a room go from blah to wow with just one glance. The styles and materials have changed over time, but the functionality remains. When selecting a faucet for your bathroom there are many styles, colors, and materials to choose from. How do you know what is right for you? Just because it looks pretty does not necessarily mean it will be functional for the room. Let’s take a look at what you should consider when replacing your faucets.

Types of Faucets

There are 4 typical types of faucets to choose from. Considerations need to be made for placement, number of holes present where mounting the faucet (or needing to be drilled) and type of sink bowl.
Single hole faucets combine the spout and the handles. These are ideal for your smaller sink and for smaller restrooms such as a quarter bath or powder room.

Center-set faucets have a single spout and two handles mounted evenly spaced. You will typically find these faucets among your standard bathroom sinks. One handle for hot water, the other for cold.

Widespread mounts tend to be larger than other faucets and include three separate pieces. The two handles and spout are spaced at least 4 inches apart and can provide a more polished look.

Wall mounted faucets are becoming quite popular recently with vessel and freestanding sinks as they require longer spouts that extend over the bowl.

Faucet Finishes

There are so many faucet finishes out there you could in essence have anything your heart desires, within your budget. Want your faucet to be blinged out in Swarovski® crystals, we are pretty sure you could find it. Polished chrome is the industry standard, with brushed chrome, polished, hammered, or brushed nickel, stainless steel, bronze, brushed or oil-rubbed bronze, polished brass or decorative ceramic as the many other options out there. With so many options out there focus on the look you are wanting to obtain with your faucet. Are you going for elegant, classic, unique, or just plain crazy? Whatever your choice of décor style begins there, then look for finishes that catch your eye. Next consider the upkeep, will you need to polish the metal every time you use the sink and is that something you are willing to do? If so, go for the shiny metals. If not, you will be better off with a brushed finish that can hide those water spots until cleaning day.

Tech in the Bathroom

Thinking about making your bathroom high tech? Then you are in luck! Several companies have high tech features that are readily available for installation. Finding yourself wanting to fight germs more than before? Then a sanitizing faucet may be just what you are looking for. Have messy hands constantly and do not want to touch the beautiful metal of your sink? Opt for a motion-activated faucet, just one wave of your hand can turn it on, off and even adjust the temperature for you. And if you are in the mood for soft silky water then a laminar flow faucet is for you.

High tech or low tech, fancy or plain, make sure that you are getting exactly what will work best for you and your needs. Let us help with your install of your beautiful new faucet and contact us today.
